Canfield Historical Society Record No: 001746
Died at the residence of her son, in Canfield Township on Saturday morning,
July 7, 1877, of chronic diarrhea, Mrs. Elizabeth Neff, wife of the late John
Neff, in the 80th year of her age. Mrs. Neff has always enjoyed excellent
health until within the past month or two, and been capable of caring for
herself during her long and useful life, with the exception of the last two
weeks. She was one of the pioneer residents of this county, and resided in
Canfield about 60 years. She came to this county when only six years of age,
with her parents, from Northampton Co., Pa., who settled on a farm in
Youngstown 73 years ago. Her remains were followed to the Canfield German
Reform Cemetery on last Sunday, by a very large concourse of relatives,
friends and acquaintances.

Additional Comments:
Elizabeth Kline Neff was probably born in Hosensack, Pennsylvania, at the
Kline’s Buckhorn Hotel, stage coach stop for Bethlehem – Philadelphia Route.
She was the daughter of Abraham and Mary Wartman Kline. Her mother died
between 1803 and 1806 and her father re-married Barbara Lynn who raised her
and her five siblings in Canfield.
