DeLAND, Fla. – Margaret Ella McCaughtry, 90, of DeLand, Fla., and Lordstown, 
Ohio, died peacefully on Sunday May 15, 2005, at the Hospice of Volusia-
Flagler Care Center, Florida, following an extended illness.
Margaret was born in Howland, Ohio, on March 1, 1915 to the late H.C. and Zoe 
Edwards Mines Sr. She married Donald J. McCaughtry on July 7, 1944, and he 
preceded her in death on Jan. 17, 1979. Mrs. McCaughtry was a 1933 graduate of 
Howland High School and a 1937 graduate of Westminster College with a bachelor 
of science in education, and for many years she was a high school history 
teacher for the Hartford and Howland school systems. She also served as the 
women’s softball and basketball coach. Following her teaching career, she was 
active in the family owned business, Don McCaughtry Services. Margaret was an 
active member of the Niles First Christian Church, serving as a former deacon, 
member of the choir and volunteer. A member of the Progress Club, Order of 
Eastern Star, Trumbull County Chapter American Red Cross volunteer, she 
enjoyed her bridge club, Blue Stocking Club and the First Nighters Club. She 
was also a member of the Niles Historical Society. She is survived by two 
sons, Charles McCaughtry and his wife, Dottie, of Ashford, Conn., and Roger 
McCaughtry and his wife, Julie, of Lake Helen, Fla.; five granddaughters and 
one great-grandson; and a brother, Henry C. Mines Jr. of Howland. She was 
preceded in death by her husband and a brother, Delbert L. Mines. Funeral 
services will be 11 a.m. Friday, May 20, 2005, at the Holeton-Yuhasz Funeral 
Home, Niles, with the Rev. Cynthia Klingemier officiating. Friends may call at 
the funeral home from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 19, 2005. Eastern Star 
services will be held at 6:45 p.m. Thursday. Burial will follow at the Niles 
City Cemetery. Material contributions may be made to the Niles First Christian 
Church Memorial Fund or Hospice of Volusia-Flagler, 3800 Woodbrier Trail, Port 
Orange, Fla. 32129
