LITTLE LEE DAVIES DROWNED
WHEN HE SLIPPE INTO POND
Lee, 2 ½-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Davies, the former executive
secretary of Youngstown Y.M.C.A., who reside on High street, Canfield, was
drowned late last Friday forenoon when he slipped and fell into the pond of
the Altimo Culture Co., not far south of the child’s home. In company with his
Spaniel dog, “Freckles,” an almost constant companion, he had wandered to the
pond, the edge of which was slippery and he fell into the water, covered with
a thin coat of ice. The dog went to his rescue and succeeded in dragging him
ashore just as his brother Hal, aged seven, and the maid appeared. Mrs. Davies
started search for the child when he was missed from home only a short time
and was quickly on the scene. She was a former physical director at the
Y.W.C.A. and immediately tried artificial respiration. Failing in her effort,
Williams’ invalid car was called and the boy rushed to Youngstown South Side
hospital, the mother continuing her efforts enroute to revive life. At the
hospital doctors, nurses and members of the Y.M.C. A. staff tried artificial
respiration and drugs without success. Lee was a bright winsome chld and his
tragic death was a sad blow to loving parents. Funeral services at the High
street home Monday afternoon were conducted by Rev. W.S. Goode, retired
Youngstown Christian church pastor. Interment was made in Forest Lawn Memorial
park, Boardman Tp.
