Mr. Craver, an old and respected citizen of Austintown, fell dead at Mineral
Ridge on Thursday last, at the town line. He went after a load of coal with a
two horse sled, and drove up to Tod & Well’s shaft. He left his team and went
up to the shutes to find someone to get the coal from. The horses took fright
at the dumping of a car and ran along the town line, with a boy four years old
in the sled. Near the Baptist Church the horses ran against the fence and
broke away from the sled, the boy still in it. The horses were caught at
Levitt’s store. Mr. Craver started in pursuit of his team accompanied by a
man named Jno. Joseph. Craver ran a few rods when he said he could go no
further, and he caught hold of the fence. Joseph went on about a rod, then
turned and saw Craver fall, he went back and found life extinct. Mr. Craver,
it is said was troubled with heart disease. The remains were taken home
immediately. The deceased was an Odd Fellow, and respected by all who knew
him. He died a few rods from where Miles was shot a few weeks since.
