Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin F. Cox, who reside a half mile north of the village, 
were notified Monday by the War Department that their son, Pfc. William 
Benjamin Cox, 29, was killed in action in France July 30th.  On Monday Mr. and 
Mrs. Cox received a letter from Pfc. Cox, written three days before he was 
killed, in which he said he expected to go into action soon and that he likely 
would not be able to write for some time. He was serving with an Infantry 
Unit. Pfc. Cox entered the armed forces April 1, 1943, and after receiving 
basic training at Camp Wheeler, Ga., he was stationed at Camp Swift., Texas, 
and Camp Meade, Md., going overseas in November. He landed in England and soon 
after was sent to Northern Ireland, where he remained until the invasion of 
France began. Pfc. Cox was born in Youngstown March 1, 1915, and came to 
Canfield with his parents in 1926. He attended Canfield schools and prior to 
his induction was employed as a plant maintenance man in the Brier Hill plant 
of the Youngstown S. & T. Co. He attended St. Patrick’s Church in Youngstown. 
Surviving besides his parents are his wife, the former Miss Freda Post, whom 
he married Feb 8th, 1941; a sister, Mrs. Mary Louise Miller of Canfield; three 
brothers, Charles and George Cox of Youngstown and Pvt. Jack Cox stationed at 
Camp Fannin, Texas, and his grandmother.
