Life's Book Closed

William L. Carman, Pioneer Machinist, Died Tuesday Evening Aged 76.

William L. Carman, aged 76 years, a well known local locomotive engineer and
machinist, died Tuesday at 7 p.m. from a complication of diseases at the
residence of his daughter, Mrs. John Walters, 1013 Himrod Avenue, with whom he
made his home since the death of his wife 14 years ago.

Deceased had been ill for several weeks, but was compelled to remain in his bed
only since last Sunday. He was born in Safe Haven, Pa., and early learned the
machinist's trade, at which he worked in Harrisburg and Philadelphia, going to
Wheatland, Pa., from the former town in 1870, where he placed all the machinery
in the old Wheatland rolling mill. From Wheatland he came to Youngstown and
worked for the Andrews Bros. as engineer and machinist, with whom he remained
for 22 years.

He is survived by these children: Mrs. Walters, city; Mrs. J.B. Johnson, Los
Angeles, Cal.; and Mrs. A.P. Watson, city. There are ten grandchildren and three
great-grandchildren. Deceased was a member of the Masonic order and also of the
First Christian church.

The funeral which will be in charge of the Masons will be held Saturday at 2
standard from the residence, with interment in Oak Hill Cemetery.
