CANFIELD – Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Meldrum’s Chapel of Prayer 
in Tempe, Ariz., and at 2 p.m. Jan. 12 at Canfield First Presbyterian Church 
for W. Dean Beardsley, 85, of 2625 E. Southern Ave., Tempe, formerly of 
Canfield, who died of emphysema Friday morning at his home.
Mr. Beardsley was born March 19, 1905, in Canfield, a son of Hiram J. and 
Ellen Zeiger Beardsley, and moved to Arizona five years ago. He was a dairy 
farmer and operated Dean Hill Dairy.
He was a supervisor in the Mahoning Soil Conservation District for 25 years, 
and, in 1987, became a member of the Ohio Soil Conservation Service’s Hall of 
Fame. He was an organizer of Crossroads Recreation and Development for the 
state’s Soil Conservation Service.
He was a director of the Farmers Savings and Loan Association of Canfield, a 
member and elder in the church, a former member of the Youngstown Rotary Club, 
a life member of the First Presbyterian Church in Mesa, Ariz.
He leaves his wife, the former Geneve Barker, whom he married Aug. 27, 1927; 
two daughters, Mrs. Barbara Reed of Aquia Harbor, Va., and Mrs. Shirley Martz 
of Sun City Ariz.; a son, Edwin D. of Des Moines, Iowa; eight grandchildren; 
and three great-grand children.
The family requests material tributes take the form of contributions to the 
Canfield First Presbyterian Church.
