FRED H. HATER: MEMORIAM

The Union Forever sadly reports the recent death of Fred H. Hatzer, retired
plant superintendent at the Jackson works. "Mister Fred," as he was
affectionately known, died of a heart attack at his home on the afternoon of
November 4. He is survived by his widow, Lillian; two brothers; two sisters; and
several nieces and nephews.
Fred retired on June 30, 1966, after completing more than 46 years of service to
the company. He had tarted with Union Fork&Hoe in February of 1919 in the
Columbus works Paint Department. In the fall of 1935 he was assigned to the new
Jackson plant as assistant plant superintendent, where he helped to get the new
plant into production.
When the company purchased the Chattanooga Handle Co. In 1944, Fred was moved to
Chattanooga as plant manager. After one year, he returned to Jackson as plant
superintendent, a position he held until his retirement.
Fred was 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason and a Shriner of Wahabi Temple in
Jackson. H was active in masonic work, and in conjunction with a friend,
sponsored and coached a "Little League" baseball team for some years. Fred
received a great deal of satisfaction from working with his "boys."
