Personal, I am the writer
Our mother, Mary Helen MacCaughey (Alvarez/May), passed away on April 29th,
2007.

Like most mom's - my mom was the most incredible woman in the entire world.

She was born in 1945 on September 15th in Columbus Ohio.

Her parents were Robert Vaughn Mac Caughey and Mary Kay MacCaughey/Xanders.

She had 4 siblings: Uncle Bill, Uncle David, Uncle Rex and Aunt Terry.

She had 3 children: Sarita, Adelita and Geoffrey.

She had two grandchildren: Claire and Jordan.

She had one cat: Mazie.

My mother always had something good to say or do for everyone one around her.
She would give up anything to help another being and regularly defended plants
and animals from being destroyed because, as she would say, "they are my
friends, don't hurt my friends.".

Everyone was Mary's friend - and they knew it.

As a kid, my mother played volleyball and softball. She played for North High
School Polar Bears. She was a ballerina. She taught me Callenetics and
Yoga. She sold Jafra and since she had a great body she was a top “Slender
Now” sales girl. She worked at the PX at the military base the family was
stationed at. She mostly worked on helping raise her sister and brothers
because Grandma Mary K was very ill early in life.

She was a fully trained Public Relations Expert and could create press and
coverage with what seemed like no effort. She was an incredible artist -
paintings, sculptures, photography and writing.

As a family child care provider she took the time to get herself the truth
about immunizations and fluoride and tried to educate others to NOT allow
their kids be exposed to either.

She always ensured every child in her care had a hot meal to enjoy while
sitting at the table with manners. She treated every child like an adult with
respect for their abilities and encouraged testing the things they might not
think they could do.

My mother wore these big "tent dresses" in every pattern she could find on
sale. These dresses became her "trademark". She could sew one in one evening…
on the old Singer Sewing Machine my grandma Mary K gave her.

Mary created a holiday for California - Family Child Care Provider Week which
is celebrated the week prior to Mother's Day. It is symbolized by placing a
daisy chain wreath on your front door.

Family Child Care was her passion and she was determined to do everything she
could to support anyone attempting to have one.

Mary had an incredible sense of humor - Carol Burnett and The Smothers
Brothers were always being played around the house and I think she learned how
to raise us with that sense of humor (I memorized "mom always like you
best"). She loved ALL forms of music - and always found some way that you
could admire it too (from grunge to classical to country).

Our mom is still perfect - and we will miss her as she moves on to her next
journey.

A memorial gathering will be held for her at the Church of Scientology AOLA
May 6th, 2007. And she specifically wanted no one to grieve about her
passing. Let's keep the super cool things my mom taught us all alive and
enjoy life creating anything you want.

Love, Sarita Shoemaker, Adelita Alvarez and Geoff May (the most lucky kids
ever)
