 ENDS OWN LIFE
Aged Shadeville Man Blows Head Off With Shotgun
Andrew Athey, 74, of Shadeville, didn't want to fail when he decided to commit
suicide Thursday morning.
So Athey, who lived alone, set the butt of a shotgun on the floor, put his
head over the muzzle and pushed the tricker (sic) with a stick.
This was Sheriff Harry Paul's theory Thursday when he found Athey with his
head blown off in his home, a shotgun by his side.
Athey's body was discovered by a son, William, also a Shadeville resident.
Despondency was declared the motive for Athey's act. The body was taken to
Denton & Donaldson mortuary, 318 E. Town St.
Coroner Murphy, who was called, rendered a verdict of suicide.
Athey leaves two other sons, Thomas of Shadeville and Andrew J. Athey of
Dublin; two daughters, Mrs. Edward Schawb of Canal Winchester and Mrs. Bert
Harris of Shadesville; two brothers and a half sister.
