Clay County Watchman
J. J. Bishop was born October 1864 and died May 24, 1888, at his father's
residence, five miles north-west of Lineville, aged 23 years, 7 months and 7
days. He was somewhat on the decline in health for about three years.
Consumption that dreaded disease, had laid hold upon the vital parts to such an
extent that it could not be arrested betore.it accomplished. its destroying
work, and the grim monster, Death, the last enemy, came along and severed soul
and body, and we were forced to give him up and consign his body to the tomb. I
was called to his bed side March 17th, 1888. Bro. J. J. Bishop told me he had
been taking medicine a long time, and it did not seem to cure him, or even
better his condition. He told me, he had such a bad spell of coughing the night
before he could hardly live and was go very bad the day I got to him, he did not
want me to leave him till he got better. I stayed with him about nine hours, and
he was decidedly better, and willing for me to return home......
