Samuel Worcester, of Second street, one of the oldest citizens of this city, 
who has been on the invalid list for a long time, and whose death has been 
anticipated for sometime, died at 10:20 o’clock on Saturday night, aged 78 
years. Mr. Worcester has been identified with the business interests of East 
Liverpool from its inception as a village of many years ago, and he leaves a 
host of mourning relatives and friends.
	Samuel Worcester was born in Plymouth, N.H. July 11, 1811, and removed 
to Brownsville, Pa. In 1818, where he lived a short time and then moved to 
Birmingham, Pa., where he followed the occupation of a glass blower until about 
35 years ago, when he moved to this city and settled on Babb’s island and 
followed farming for a number of years. About 22 years ago he sold the island 
and gave up farming, purchasing the building at the corner of Second and Market 
streets and opening up a grocery. In this business he continued until his 
death. In 1834 he was ordained as a preacher of the M.P. church, but did not 
follow this sacred calling regularly. He was an upright, conscientious 
Christian and many a poor family have received the benefit of his charity. At 
one time Mr. Worcester was well off in worldly possessions, but misfortune 
overtook him. He was interested in the Star pottery,that was destroyed by fire 
a few years ago, a blow from which he never recovered financially. For the past 
ten years he has been an invalid, but only in the past year has he been 
compelled to take his bed. He died like a tired child going to sleep in its 
mother’s arms. Mr. Worcester was married twice. In 1838 he was united in 
marriage to Sarah Ann Duncan, and the union was blessed with
