David Clark Thompson, well known throughout Eastern Ohio and Western 
Pennsylvania died Tuesday evening at his home at Smiths Ferry, after an illness 
of two weeks from grip. He was improving when he suffered a relapse which 
proved fatal.
	David Clark Thompson was born at Calcutta, this county, about 82 years 
ago. He was the son of William and Nellie Thompson, who were among the first 
white persons who settled in this part of the state.
	The early part of his life was spent around St. Clair. Deceased was 
married twice. After his first marriage he located in Smiths Ferry where he 
resided up until the time of his death. He was a very successful farmer and a 
large land owner in this section.
	Surviving are four children by his first wife and five by the second 
wife. Deceased was a brother of Mrs. Mary J. Scroggs, of Beaver, and of the 
late Josiah Thompson of East Liverpool and John Thompson of Calcutta. Mrs. 
Scroggs is now the only living survivor of the Thompson family, which was 
originally eight children. 
	Mrs. Monroe Patterson, of this city, is a daughter of the deceased.
	Mr. Thompson was a member of the Smiths Ferry Presbyterian church.
