East Liverpool Daily Crisis - 5 Apr 1902 - pg 4
At the residence, 222 Fifth Street, at 3:45 o’clock Saturday morning, occurred
the death of one of the oldest residents of Liverpool township, Mrs. John W.
Moore. The cause of the death was a complication of nervous diseases from which
for several years she had been an intense, though patient, sufferer. The
funeral services will be held Monday at 10 am from the residence, and private
interment will be made in the cemetery at Calcutta. Rev. Taggart will conduct
the services. The remains may be viewed at the residence from 7 to 9 o’clock
Saturday evening and from 6 to 7 o’clock Sunday evening.
The maiden name of the deceased was Sarah Jane Martin and she was born in
Beaver County, PA, January 2, 1830, being 72 years of age at the time of her
death. At an early age she removed to St. Clair Township where, November 1,
1849, she was married to John W. Moore, who survives her.
They lived in St. Clair Township until 11 years ago, when they removed to the
residence on Fifth Street, where they have lived ever since. Two years ago they
celebrated their golden wedding. Mrs. Moore had been a conscientious Christian
and a member of the United Presbyterian church since early girlhood. She was an
unusually bright woman in spite of her suffering in after life, bore it
patiently and was always of a mild, even temperament. Besides the husband, she
is survived by a brother Harvey Martin of this city, and a sister, Mrs. J.H.
Abrams, also of East Liverpool. Judge Martin, a brother, preceded her to the
grave. Three children are left, John W. Jr. of this city, James L. of Madison
Township, and Mrs. S.P. Saint, of St. Clair Township.
