East Liverpool Crisis 24 Sep 1896 pg 4
Mrs. Anne Barker, born May 20, 1802, died at midnight Wednesday at the home of
her son James Hague, in the west end. Death was due to the infirmities of old
age alone, and came and took the old lady off quietly and without pain. She was
conscious until the last.
Mrs. Barker was born in England 94 years ago last spring. In 1840 she
came to America with her husband, John Hague, who started in the retail book
business in Pittsburgh. A short while after this they came to East Liverpool,
then in embryo. Mr. Hague was killed in the Mexican war, but Mrs. Hague
afterwards married a man named Barker and never left East Liverpool. Surviving
her are two sons, John and James, and one daughter, Mrs. William West.
Deceased was one of the founders of the M.P. Church in this city and
has since been a devout follower. She has until within the last three weeks
been quite active and would visit her children in different parts of the city
regularly.
The funeral will occur at 2 o’clock Friday.
