"Harbor Boat Captain Dies At Biloxi"

"Lewis James Gorenflo, 58, 305 E. Howard Ave., Biloxi, lifelong Biloxian and Captain
of the 'Sailfish', Biloxi Harbor sightseeing and tour boat, died at about 11 a.m.
today at Howard Memorial Hospital. He had been ill since Sunday night and was taken
to the hospital this morning. He was a graduate of Perkinston Junior College and
attended old Mississippi A&M College. Gorenflo formerly operated a garage and
filling station and later built sailboats which were shipped around the world. He
also built steamboats which set records in various parts of the country. He won many
trophies for his racing boats which he designed and built. He was later engaged in
deep sea fishing and for ten years had operated the 'Sailfish'. He was a member of
the Biloxi Chamber of Commerce, Church of Nativity and other organizations. He also
wrote articles on boat building for Popular Mechanics and other magazines. His
Biloxi dingy was adopted as the official boat for the Sea Scouts. He was recently
awarded a citation by the Hotel and Motel Association for his service to the
tourists of the area. Captain Gorenflo is survived by his widow, the former Marion
Thomas; a son, Lt. Louis W. Gorenflo, Brunswick. Maine, who is now enroute home; two
brothers. William and Wilfred Gorenflo; a sister. Mrs. Lewis Curtis a d two
grandchildren. The body is at Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home pending funeral
arrangements."
