W. E. "Wild Bill" Knesal, Sr., 83, of Biloxi, MS died Wednesday, October 1, 
2008 in Biloxi. Mr. Knesal was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII where he received 
five battle Stars, including the Battle of the Bulge. He drove a tank from St. 
Lo, Normandy to Belgium, Holland, France and Germany. He was owner/operator of 
Bill Knesal Contractor from 1971 until his death. Mr. Knesal is preceded in 
death by his parents, David C., Sr. and Clara Darscheid Knesal; brothers, 
David Knesal, Jr., Joe Knesal; sisters, Christine, Margaret, Catherine and 
Marie. A Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Woolmarket. 
Interment: Biloxi National Cemetery with Military Honors.

May Jewell Runnels Ladner, 83, of Long Beach, MS, died October 1, 2008, in 
Gulfport, MS. She graduated from Gulfport High School in 1942. Mrs. Ladner was 
preceded in death by her mother, Bonnie Streichert; step-father, William 
Streichert; grandmother, Clara Hodgeman; a sister, Delores Fayard; a brother-
in-law, J.C. Fayard; father, Jess Runnels; and former spouses, Oscar Erwin 
Ladner and Jack Nier. Burial: Long Beach City Cemetery.

Betty "Bee" Mosley, age 75, of Biloxi died October 1, 2008 in Biloxi. She was 
a former longtime resident of Jonesboro, LA. Visitation: Edmonds Funeral Home, 
Jonesboro, LA. Graveside services: Gayla Trainer Cemetery.

Mrs. Renee E. Williams, 49, of Biloxi, MS died October 1, 2008. She is 
preceded in death by her birth father: Jiles Polk, Sr. and brothers: Jiles 
Polk, Jr. and Michael Coker.Visitation: Greater St. John A.M.E. Church, 
Biloxi. Burial: Biloxi National Cemetery.

Oct. 2
Derick Philip Boudreaux, age 27, a resident of Saucier, died October 2, 2008, 
in Saucier. Derick was preceded in death by his brothers, Edward Boudreaux & 
Jeremy Boudreaux. Graveside service: Alphonse Malley Cemetery, Firetower Road, 
Hancock County.

Myrlin J. Mauffray, age 78, of Long Beach, MS died October 2, 2008 in 
Gulfport. Born in Cuevas, MS. Mr. Mauffray was preceded in death by his wife, 
Ona Mae Ladner Mauffray; his sons, Myrlin Mauffray, Jr. and Nelson Ladner; his 
parents Owen L. Mauffray and Luella Davis Mauffary; brothers, Clarence and 
Laverne; and his sisters, Nell Marie Makenzie, Delores Jackson and Thelma 
Varnado. Funeral service: Divine Grace Baptist Church, Red Creek Road, Long 
Beach. Burial: Alphonse Malley Cemetery. 

Purvis L. McBride Sr., age 75 of Gulfport, MS died October 2, 2008 in Gulfport.

Charles L. Sindle, 81, of Biloxi died October 2, 2008 in Biloxi. He was a 
native of Tinsman, Arkansas. Charles served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during 
WWII. He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Sallie Sindle, 
brothers, Audie, Ray, Virgil, Waylon, Travis and Joe, sister, Mary Madeline 
Gilbert and son-in-law, Darryl Jiminez. Interment: Coalville Cemetery, 
Woolmarket, MS.

Dorothy Hearn McCaleb Wink, 90, of Gulfport, died October 2, 2008 in 
Arkadelphia, Arkansas. Burial: Biloxi National Cemetery. 

Lawrence "Larry" Woten, age 80, a resident of Biloxi, died October 2, 2008 in 
Gulfport, MS. Mr. Woten was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and 
Katherine Woten, and daughter, Marsha Woten. He was signed by the Boston Red 
Sox and played in their minor league program. He served in the U.S. Air Force 
as an Air Traffic Control instructor, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant.

Oct. 3
Mrs. Georgia Barker, 65, a native of Biloxi, MS, died October 3, 2008, in 
Ocean Springs. Mrs. Barker was preceded in death by her parents, Sadie and 
Benjamin F. Yarbrough, Jr.; son, Vincent "V.J." Adamo, Jr.; and brothers, 
Robert, Benjamin F., III, and Adrian Yarbrough. Interment: D'Iberville 
Memorial Park.

W. L. Dickerson, 80, of Gulfport, MS died October 3, 2008 in Biloxi. Service: 
Gulf Gardens Baptist, Gulfport. Burial: Biloxi National Cemetery.

Richard Frederick Eastman, age 73, a resident of Gulfport, died October 3, 
2008, in Gulfport. Born in Chicago, Ill and reared in Lima, Ohio. He enlisted 
in the U.S. Air Force. He served 8 years active duty and also served in the 
Air National Guard. Mr. Eastman retired from Civil Service at Keesler. Mr. 
Eastman was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Margaret Eastman. 
Burial: Biloxi National Cemetery. 

Kenneth Jerome Lyons, Sr., 81, of Biloxi, MS, died October 3, 2008. Kenny was 
born July 20, 1927, to John and Adelaide Lyons of Biloxi. He was married to 
Margaret Germaine Sablich, of Biloxi, June 11, 1950 at Nativity B.V.M. 
Catholic Cathedral in Biloxi. Kenny graduated from Biloxi High School in 1948 
and served two years in the United States Navy. He worked 10 years with the 
Veterans Administration Hospital before retiring in 1987. He was preceded in 
death by his wife, his parents, and one son, Patrick Joseph Lyons, Sr., as 
well as three brothers, Joseph Lyons, John "Speedy" Lyons, Matt Lyons, and one 
sister, Marie Lyons Stewart. Entombment: Southern Memorial Park, Biloxi.

Diana Osteen, 59, of Ocean Springs, MS, died October 3, 2008, in Biloxi. 
Gloria Pilgrim Parker, 58, of Long Beach, died October 3, 2008, in Hammond, 
LA.Interment: Gulf Pines Cemetery, Long Beach, MS.

Mary Alice Turnage, 59, of Biloxi, MS October 3, 2008. Mrs. Turnage was 
preceded in death by her husband, Willie Curtis Turnage, Sr., her baby 
daughter, and her mother, Essie Mae Spencer. Service: New Evening Star, 4302 
Illinois Ave., Gulfport, MS.
 
Randy S. Wall, age 42, of Gulfport died October 3, 2008 in Gulfport, MS. He 
was born on November 11, 1965. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, W. 
L "Bug" Chavers and uncle, Harry Chavers. Services for Randy Wall were held 
Sunday, October 5, 2008.

William Randell Truitt, age 48, died October 4, 2008 in Gulfport, MS.

Walter Cornelius Houston, III, born August 9, 1945, died October 5, 2008 at 
his residence in Gulfport, MS. He grew up in Shady Grove, MS, a suburb of 
Laurel. He served a four- year tour of duty in the U.S. Army. He was preceded 
in death by his parents W.C. and Mildred Houston of Laurel and a sister Ellen 
(Vicky) Houston Prince of Clinton, MO.  Memorial service: at his home.

Sheila Jackson, 51, of Biloxi, MS died October 5, 2008 in Biloxi. 

Gayle Jefferson, 56,  was born on September 18, 1952 in Gulfport, MS to Wilbur 
Sr. and Blondeva Jefferson. Died October 5, 2008. She is preceded in death by 
her parents, Wilbur Sr. and Blondeva Jefferson; her sister, Kathy A. Walker; 
and a niece, Baby Blondeva Jefferson. Memorial service: Little Rock Missionary 
Baptist Church, 4538 Old Pass Rd., Gulfport, MS. 

August Richard Pique, Sr., of Woolmarket, MS, was born on April 3, 1929 in New 
Orleans, LA to Walter John Pique, Sr. and Margaret Mary Hogan Pique, died 
October 5, 2008, in Gulfport, MS. He is preceded in death by his parents; his 
brothers, Walter John Pique, Jr., Elmer Joseph Pique, Sr., Harold James Pique, 
Sr., and his sister, Margaret Mary Pique Young. Burial: Gulf Pines Memorial 
Gardens, Long Beach.

Shirley Roudeze Evans, 88 of Pass Christian, MS died Oct. 6, 2008 in Chicago,

Jean Anderson Foster, age 66, of Biloxi, MS died October 6, 2008 in Biloxi. 
Services will be private. 

Gene Reich, died October 6, 2008 at the age of 81. Gene was born in Double 
Springs, Alabama on June 16, 1927 to Curtis and Rilla Reich. Gene was preceded 
in death by his parents; his brothers, Troyce Reich, Chuck Reich, and Clyde 
Reich; a sister, Sereda Bazzell; and a grandson, Eric Lee Overbay. He served 
in World War II in the U.S. Navy after volunteering at the young age of 17. He 
was on a LST Navy ship. Burial: Finley Cemetery.

Brandi Lea Sims, age 38 of Long Beach, MS died October 7, 2008 in Long Beach. 
She was born in Hattiesburg. She was preceded in death by a brother, Stephen 
Lee Sims; and a great-grandmother, Lena Kahler. Funeral service: Funeral Home,

Louis Cook, 79, of Pass Christian, died October 7, 2008. Funeral Service: St.

Betty Hebert, died October 7, 2008 at the age of 75. She was born on March 8, 
1933 to the union of Wilson and Ruth Thibodeaux. She was preceded in death by 
her parents; Wilson and Ruth Thibodeaux, 1 brother; Terry Thibodeaux, and 2 
sisters; Tootsie Lassere, and Elizabeth Thibodeaux. Burial: Biloxi City 
Cemetery. 

Debbie L. Rivers, 51, Biloxi, MS died October 7, 2008. Service: F.H., Howard 
Ave., Biloxi. 

Eugene "Pops" Rogers, Ret. Chief, USN, age 70, of Gulfport died October 7, 
2008 in Gulfport. He retired from the US Navy, Seabees, Unit 133, after 27 1/2 
years. He retired from Civil Service with the Gulfport VA. He was preceded in 
death by his grandsons, Jason D. Haley and Jonathon C. Riley; mother, Gracie 
Pearl Rogers; father, Fred Rogers; and 2 sisters and 6 brothers. Visitation:

John Elwood "Sandy" Sandusky, 86, of Gulfport died October 7, 2008, in 
Gulfport. John was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in WWII. He was 
preceded in death by his son, Michael John; and his sister, Virginia Worrell.

MSgt John J. "Andy" Ander, U.S. Air Force, retired, age 82 and a resident of 
Biloxi, died October 8, 2008 in Ocean Springs. Burial with full military 
honors will follow in Biloxi National Cemetery.

Ruby Dronet Creel, 81, of Biloxi October 8, 2008 in Biloxi, MS. Preceded in 
death by her husband, Norman J. Creel, Sr. (Blackie), her parents, Octave and 
Alta Dronet, son, Norman "Chin" J. Creel, Jr., sister, Daisy Dronet Seymour, 
brother, Ray Dronet, two grandchildren, Dawn Marie and Rodney Creel, Jr. Mass

Lisa B. Hawthorne, age 42, of Gulfport, MS died October 8, 2008 in Gulfport. 
She was born to the late Walter B. Barry and Cora "Peewee" McNair on January 
1, 1966 in Gulfport, Lisa is preceded in death by her parents, Walter B. Barry 
and Cora McNair; grandparents, Booker T. Sellers and Elsie M. Sellers; her 
mother-in-law, Lorenia Hawthorne; and an uncle, Joe Sellers. Burial: Pine

Sarah E. Thibodeau, 87, of Biloxi, died October 8, 2008 in Biloxi. She was 
preceded in death by her husband, George Thibodeau and two children, Phillip 
Thibodeau and Arthur Thompson. Interment: Coalville Cemetery. 

Oct. 9
Faye Hanks Campbell, 90, of Starkville, MS, formerly of Paris, Ill., died Oct. 
9, 2008, in Cantrell’s Personal Care in Starkville. She was born on Aug. 12, 
1918, in Wolf Point, Mont., the daughter of the late Linder and Grace (Sims) 
Hanks. She married Forrest Leo Campbell, on July 6, 1942, in Biloxi, Miss., 
and he preceded her in death on Nov. 18, 2007. She was preceded in death by 
two brothers, Frank and Dennis Hanks; and three sisters, Alice McCoy, Ruth 
Street, and Mary Spradley. Graveside services in Vermilion Cemetery, 
Vermilion, Ill.

Caldwell, Philip Jackson, died October 9, 2008, surrounded by his three 
children. Born November 19, 1919 in Biloxi, MS. Preceded in death by his wife 
Joan and grandson Jedidiah. Survived by three children and five grandchildren. 
He served with distinction in the Army Air Corps in World War II. Funeral 
Mass: St. Dorothy's Catholic Church, 241 S. Valley Center, Glendora, CA.

Fred H. Johnson, age 66, died October 9, 2008, in Bowie, Texas. He was born 
and raised in Woolmarket, MS and was a long time resident of Saucier. Mr. 
Johnson was preceded in death by his wife, Brenda Johnson; parents, James 
Clyde Johnson and Elsie Evelyn Johnson; sister, Johnnie Ruth McKay; and 
brother, Wesley Johnson. 

Gladys Staub Wegman, 86, of New Orleans died Oct. 9, 2008, in Gulfport.

Mr. Michael D. Baker, 52, of Biloxi, MS, died October 10, 2008, in Biloxi. 
Mike was born July 12, 1956 in Savannah, GA. He was preceded in death by his 
father, Kenneth G. Baker and a brother, Kenneth G. Baker, Jr. A memorial 
service will be held in the near future on his property for his numerous 
friends.

Doris Murphy Balius, age 80, of Gulfport, died October 10, 2008 in Gulfport. 
Mrs. Balius was born in Napoleon, MS. She was preceded in death by her 
parents, Charles B. Murphy and Mary Elizabeth Starks Murphy; four brothers, 
Calvin Murphy, Charles Murphy, Patrick Murphy, Mike Murphy; and three sisters, 
Lucille Witter, Nancy Murphy, and Claudia Murphy. Graveside service: Biloxi

Barbara Cade Brechtel, age 50, of Gulfport, died October 10, 2008 in Gulfport.

Louis A. Champagne, 78, Springfield, ILL, died October 10, 2008. He was born 
September 19, 1930, in Biloxi, MS, the son of the late Gabriel J. and Olga L. 
(Fayard) Champagne. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Gabriel, and a 
sister, Lois Morse. Louis was a U.S. Army Veteran. Burial:  Missouri Veterans 
Cemetery, Springfield, ILL.

Rex H. Johnson, Sr., 75, of Gulfport, MS died Oct. 10, 2008 in New Orleans.
Michael G. Mate, Jr. age 28, of Pass Christian, MS died October 10, 2008 in 
Gulfport.Michael was preceded in death by his maternal Grandfather, George 
Steady. Burial: Live Oak Cemetery. 

Ruth J. 'Bug' Quick, age 73, of Gulfport died October 10, 2008 in Gulfport. 
She was preceded in death by her parents, Velma Quick and William Quick; her 
sisters, Virel Craig and Dean Barras; and her brother, Willie T. Quick.

Lorraine A. Jones Rainey, 64,of Biloxi died October 10, 2006 in Atlanta, GA. 
She was born November 29, 1943 in Biloxi, MS. She is the daughter of Essie Mae 
Jones and Robert C. Whigham Sr. She is preceded in death by her mother, Essie 
Mae Jones and her brother, Thomas Jones. Burial: Monroe Memorial Park.

Kent W. Van Skiver, 56, of Biloxi, MS, died October 10, 2008 at his home. Mr. 
Van Skiver was born December 31, 1951, in Belleville, Illinois, to Walter and 
Audrey Van Skiver. Interment: Floral Hills Memorial Gardens. 

Oct. 11
Victor Joseph Fava, Jr., 64, of Greenville, MS. Services: Trinity United 
Methodist Church, in Greenville, where was a member and sang in the choir. He 
died suddenly Saturday, October 11, 2008, in Biloxi, MS. Burial will be in the 
family plot in The Greenville Cemetery. A lifelong resident of Greenville, Vic 
was born August 30, 1944. He served in the Mississippi National Guard for six 
years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carolina and Victor Fava. 

Charles Earl Fairley, 62, of Waveland died 10/11/08. Visitation and Service: 
Mount Chapel Baptist Church, Waveland. Burial at later date.

Mrs. Mary Dianne Ryan, 65, died October 11, 2008. Preceded in death by her 
parents, Chris and Ethel Mae Christensen, and brother, Herbie. Entombment: 
Southern Memorial Park.

Mildred W. Williams, 74, of Gulfport, MS died October, 11, 2008 in Gulfport. 
She was born in Ocean Springs, MS on March 4, 1934, the youngest of 13 
children. She was a real granddaughter of the United Daughters of the 
Confederacy. She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years Carlie N. 
Williams, her parents, Walter and Josephine Webb, her siblings, Tracey Webb, 
Hugh Webb, Sybil Beaugez, Audrey DeSilvery, Walter Webb, Carolyn Kiernan, Eula 
Switzer, Francis Webb, Priscilla Webb, and Alice Webb. Burial: Southern 
Memorial Park, Biloxi.

Eddie L. Dulier, Sr., age 73, of Woolmarket, MS died October 12, 2008 in 
Gulfport, MS. Preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and his sister. 
He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving in the Korean War. Burial: 
Biloxi National Cemetery.

Dr. Catherine E. Newkirk, 54, of Gulfport died October 12, 2008 in Gulfport.

Ruby Schilling Porter, 85, of Long Beach, MS died Oct. 12, 2008 in 
Poplarville, MS. Burial: Floral Hills, Gulfport. 

Little Amallea Hope Snoddy, passed away Sunday, October 12, 2008 in Gulfport, 
MS at the age of 0. She is preceded in death by her great grandfathers, Tim 
Snoddy, Jr. and Will Ellis. Private services were held Saturday, October 18, 
2008 graveside at Monroe Memorial Park in Gulfport, where Little Amallea was 
surrounded by her parents and grandparents.


Lubertha Welch, age 68, of Long Beach, MS died October 12, 2008 in Gulfport. 
Services: Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church, 306 Church St., Long Beach. Burial: 
Monroe Memorial Park, Gulfport, MS.

Oct. 13
Mrs. Pattie Ann Ezell Adkinson, age 52, a current resident of Biloxi, MS died 
on Monday, October 13, 2008 at a local healthcare facility. A native of 
Langdon, North Dakota, former resident of Citronelle and Northport, AL. Pattie 
taught at Vancleave Lower Elementary School as a special education teacher. 
She also worked at Riverside Jr. High in Northport, AL for many years. 
Visitation: Cedar Creek Church of the Brethern, 20365 Meinhardt Loop 
Citronelle, AL. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Billie Rayburn Beasley, age 75, of Gulfport, died October 13, 2008 in 
Gulfport. Mrs. Beasley was born in Wiggins, MS and resided in Gulfport. Mrs. 
Beasley was preceded in death by her parents, William Silas and Myrtle 
Rayborn; her brother, Everett (Buddy) Burdett; her first husband William 
Robert Rayburn and second husband P. M. Beasley, Jr.; first grandson, Yazid 
Beaoui; & niece Judy Darnell. She was retired from the Biloxi VA as a nursing 
assistant. Services: Woodlawn Cemetery, Wiggins, Stone County, MS.

Robert G. Bunt, 69 of Gulfport, MS died October 13, 2008 at Keesler Medical 
Center in Biloxi. He was retired from the U.S. Navy after 28 years of 
honorable service. Burial: Biloxi National Cemetery.

Lawrence Raymond Hawkins, age 79, of Ocean Springs, MS died October 13, 2008 
in Gulfport. Mr. Hawkins was a native of Brooklyn, NY. He served in the United 
States Navy and Air Force, retiring in 1970 as an MSgt. He worked as a 
Electronics Instructor in the Civil Service following his Military retirement. 
He was preceded in death by his parents, Horace R. and Mary Ellen Fahey 
Howkins; sons, Robert Georges, Raymond A. Hawkins and Lawrence Raymond 
Hawkins, Jr. Interment: Biloxi National Cemetery.

Mr. Thomas Dallas Laing, 90, a resident of Biloxi, MS, died October 13, 2008, 
in Biloxi. Mr. Laing was born in Sutton, WV. He a veteran of the U. S. Army. 
Mr. Laing was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Norma Wininger Laing; 
parents, Thomas J. and Mary Garrettson Laing; and a sister, Vivian Murphy.

Humphrey John McCarron of Slidell, LA died October 13, 2008. Beloved Husband 
of the late Elaine Van Winkle McCarron. Age 84 years. A native of 
Philadelphia, Pa. and a longtime resident of Slidell. He served in WWII in the 
U.S. Navy in the Atlantic and Pacific Theatres. He was a System Analyst and 
worked on the Saturn Rocket Program with Chrysler and also the Space Shuttle 
program with Martin Marrietta. Burial: Biloxi National Cemetery. 

Catalina C. Murao, 76, of Gulfport, died, Oct. 13, 2008 in Gulfport.

James Kenneth Phillips, age 74, resident of Gulfport, died Monday, October 13, 
2008, in Gulfport. Mr. Phillips chose to gift his body to medical research at 
the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, Ms. A memorial 
service will be held at a later date.

Thomas J. "T.J." Hebert Necaise, 30, of Pass Christian died Oct. 13, 2008 in 
Vicksburg, MS.

Mr. Kent R. Shull, 76, died Oct. 13, 2008 at his home. Services: Weathers 
Funeral Home in Salem, Ind.

Rainey Williams was born on January 6, 1939 to the late K. C. and Margaret 
Williams in Gulfport, MS, died October 13, 2008. Rainey is preceded in death 
by his parents, K.C. and Margaret Williams; paternal grandparents, Sandy and 
Valena Williams; maternal grandparents, Lawrence and Mary Miller; one 
daughter, Winona (Renee) Clayton and one brother, Steve Williams. Services:

Julie Ann Greathouse Moats, 64, of Perkinston, MS, and formerly of Point 
Marion, Pa., died Friday, October 17, 2008 in the Biloxi, MS. Born April 1, 
1944, she was a daughter of Madge Graham Greathouse of Point Marion, Pa., and 
the late Willis Greathouse. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, she had been employed 
as an accounting technician at the U.S. Naval Home in Gulfport for 35 years, 
until her retirement in April of 2004. Funeral services: Evergreen Memorial

Thomas "Toby" Smith, 40, of Bay St. Louis, MS died October 17, 2008 in Bay St.

Mary Brash Griffin, 83, of Pearl River, LA died October 18, 2008. Mrs. Griffin 
was born in Gulfport MS, the daughter of Ralph and Rosa Brash. Mary graduated 
from Gulfport High School in 1943, and graduated from Sophie Newcomb College, 
New Orleans in 1946. She married Robert Henry Griffin on November 29, 1946 in 
Gulfport, MS, and celebrated 51 years of Marriage before his passing. Together 
they had three children. She was a founder of Magnolia Forest Garden Club in 
Pearl River LA, and founded the Slidell Council of Garden Clubs. She was a 
Master Flower Show Judge and won many Top Horticulture Awards, as well as the 
Top Design Award, Louisiana District VI Flower Show; and the Top Local and Top 
National Design Awards at the National Camellia Flower Show in 1992. She was 
the owner of Griffin Gardens Blueberry and Native Plant Nursery in Gulfport 
MS. She was preceded in death by her husband: Robert H. Griffin: a son: Roy 
Brash Griffin: and a sister: Rosa Elizabeth Brash. Funeral Services will be

Ollen (Kit) Musgrove, age 77, of Gulfport, died October 18, 2008 at his home 
in Gulfport, MS, a native of Laurel, MS and had been a resident of Gulfport 
for the past two years. Mr. Musgrove served his country for over twenty years 
in the United States Marines serving tours in the Korean War and in Vietnam. 
He had also served as a drill sergeant at Paris Island and was an instructor 
for the Marine Corps Reserves. He was preceded in death by his parents A.C. 
and Susan Musgrove, step-father Bill Davis, his brother, R.C. Musgrove,

Nell Stephenson Rogers, age 77, a resident of Long Beach, MS died on October

Robert D. Scott was born on June 11, 1924 in Troy, Illinois to Joseph and 
Theresa Scott. He completed two years of college. Robert served his county in

Alvin Elo Alonzo Guenzel, 85, died October 19, 2008. Alvin was born into a 
large, loving family in Jourdanton, TX and happily raised in Holland, TX. He 
was a second Lieutenant in the US Air Force during WWII; a B-29 flight 
engineer flying reconnaissance missions before and after bombing raids, 
including Hiroshima; and receiving a special commission from President 
Roosevelt. Alvin met and married Virginia Margiotta while stationed at Keesler 
AFB in Biloxi, MS. They moved to Arlington, TX to raise their four children. 
After retiring they moved back to the MS gulf coast. Alvin was preceded in 
death by his youngest son, Larry Don Guenzel; his parents, Bertha and Paul 
Guenzel; his brother, Herbert Guenzel; and sisters, Adeline Owens, Doris 
Richardson, Rose Paulk, and Helen Woelke. Interment: Gulf Pine Memorial

Dr. Kenneth Charles "Doc" Bleichner ,of Biloxi, was born in New Orleans, LA, 
on November 3, 1939, died October 23, 2008 in Biloxi. Doc was preceded in 
death by his parents, Henry and Winnifred Toups Bleichner. Upon graduation, he 
joined the Air Force and began his career as a medic. His 36 year career as a 
veterinarian began at Biloxi Animal Hospital in 1971. In 1989, he built 
Edgewater Veterinary Hospital. After retirement he performed veterinary 
services at the Humane Society of South Mississippi and Keesler Air Force 
Base. Burial: Biloxi National Cemetery.

William Joseph Dannenmueller, 65, passed away at home in Biloxi, Thursday, 
October 23, 2008. He was born July 1, 1943 in New Hamburg, Missouri, the son 
of the late Cornelius and Marie Jansen Dannenmueller. William was a U.S. Air 
Force Veteran and served as an Airborne Command System Support Radio Operator 
for 26 years.  Burial: Biloxi National Cemetery with military honors.

Freddie E. 'Pete' Steube, Sr, age 71, of Gulfport, died October 23, 2008 in 
Gulfport. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry Fred Steube and 
Millie S. Light; and his grandson, Jeremy Lee Allen. Burial: Allen Cemetery, 
Long Beach. 

Joe Daniel Turner, born October 26, 1918, died October 23, 2008 three days 
before his 90th. birthday. He was preceded in death by his wife Bertha Colburn 
Turner, parents Laura and Nick Turner, sisters Birtie Foley and Elsie Payne, 
brother Virgil Turner, and grandson Seth Joseph Nelson. He was born in 
Tuscaloosa County, AL, one of ten children born to Laura and Nick Turner. He 
sustained severe wounds serving his country in the United States Army during 
World War II in France on August 24, 1944. In 1958 his job brought him to the 
Mississippi Gulf Coast where he spent the last fifty years raising a family.

Martha White was a resident of Biloxi, and a wife for 47 years. She worked at 
Biloxi Community Living Center during Hurricane Katrina, and was a member of 
St. Edward Catholic Church in Spring, TX. Martha White passed away in Gulfport 
on Thursday, October 23, 2008 age 68. She is preceded in death by her parents, 
Alma and Clifton Little; four sisters, Elise White, Alma Whittington, Mary 
Rankin, and Ellen Reamon; and her brother, Clifton Little, Jr. Services were 
held Tuesday, October 28, 2008 in Gulfport.

Mrs. Edith Joyce Cook, 69, of Pass Christian, MS died October 24, 2008 at 
home. She was preceded in death by her husband, Freddie Cook; and parents,

Regina Douglas Kietzer, 92, died in Gulfport October 24, 2008. She was born 
August 6, 1916, in Wayne County, MS. Before her illness she could often be 
seen from early morning to late afternoon in her Old English-style garden 
among as many as 450 varieties of roses that she grew. Regina met her husband, 
Arnold Kietzer, on the Gulf Coast and they married in 1953. The family 
traveled with Arnold as he was transferred around the world while working with 
the National Security Agency. Regina was preceded in death by her parents, 
Ezra Warren and Maggie Patrick Douglas, her first husband Ralph Mozingo, who 
was killed in the Pacific in World War II; her husband of forty-four years, 
Arnold; her son, Lawrence; son-in-law Jim MaGee; brothers Norman, Emory, 
George, E.W. Jr. and Lamar; and her sister Olga Lewis. Burial will be in the 
family cemetery at Providence United Methodist Church, State Line, MS.

was preceded in death by his wife, Sylvia Sparks Hensley; his parents, Dennie

Faye Nell Sellier Hertzog, 73, died October 25, 2008 in Long Beach. Born April 
1, 1935 to Herman and Jesse Sellier, Faye grew up in Pass Christian. In 1957, 
she met Airman Jake Hertzog of West Lawn, PA while he was stationed at Keesler 
AFB. They married in 1958, a union lasting for 48 years until his passing in 
2007. Burial: Live Oak Cemetery, Pass Christian. 

Mrs. Mable Brown Hawthorne Weir Hicks, 101, of Gulfport died October 26, 2008 
in Gulfport. She was a member of Mercy Seat Missionary Baptist Church where 
she was active for over 85 years. She served as Directoress of the Sr. Choir, 
member of the Deaconess Board, Minister's Wives Auxiliary, Sr. Mission and 
Sunday School. Mrs. Hicks was preceded in death by her parents, Burton and 
Lillie Brown; three husbands, Ethel Hawthorne, Rev. Richard Weir, Willie 
Hicks; five siblings, Elizabeth Kirk, Geneva Brown, Edward Burton Brown, 
Alfred Brown, Estella Heathman and a grandson, Roderic Dunlap. Her survivors 
include: five loving and devoted children, five, six great-grandchildren.

Dennis "Denny" Michael Landry Jr., of Biloxi, was born December 18, 1940 died 
October 25, 2008. He was a registered pharmacist for over 45 years, ending his 
career at the VA Hospital in Biloxi. He is preceded in death by his father, 
Dennis Michael Landry, Sr.; his mother, Olive Kennedy Landry; and his brother, 
Joseph Lloyd Landry. Burial: Biloxi City Cemetery.

Kenneth Branch Overstreet, 75, of Biloxi, MS died October 25, 2008, in Biloxi. 
He was a retired U. S. Air Force Veteran and also retired from civil service 
at Keesler AFB. He was a longtime volunteer at the Biloxi V A Medical Center.

Elton Seymour Sperier, age 86, of Long Beach, MS died October 25, 2008 in 
Gulfport. Mr. Sperier was born in Pear Ridge, Texas on September 18, 1922. He 
was preceded in death by his parents, Camille Marie Dubuisson Sperier and 
Seymour Alcede Sperier; and a sister, Gloria Ann. Elton served his country in 
the Army Air Force during World War II. He retired from the Gulfport Naval 
Construction Battalion after 36 years of faithful service where he served as 
general equipment inspector in receiving inspection and delivery, traffic

Wilda Mae (Kulivan) Sitren born March 27, 1925, died October 29, 2008 in 
Biloxi. She was born and raised on Howard Avenue as the youngest child of 
twelve of Mike and Beatrice Kulivan. Although she lived her adult life in 
Edison, NJ, her heart always belonged to Biloxi. She was preceded in death by 
her husband of sixty years, Samuel (Lucky), her son Robert Michael, her grand 
son-in-law, Phillip Pratt, Jr., and her eleven brothers and sisters. Private

& Nancy Davis Fore; her brothers, Hyman Fore, Jack Fore, and Lonnie Fore; her 
sisters, Claudia Ryan, Fredonia Bond, and Theda Newbill. Burial: Biloxi 
National Cemetery.

Thomas John Gmerek, Sr., age 71, of Gulfport, died October 30, 2008, in 
Gulfport.

George Harris Krug, Sr., age 85, and a resident of Long Beach, MS died October 
30, 2008 in Gulfport. Mr. Krug was born in Birmingham, AL. He was a WWII 
veteran of the US Army, and served in the reserves after active duty. He is 
preceded in death by his parents Emmerson and Dorsey Krug, and his sister 
Louise Watkins. Burial: Biloxi National Cemetery.

Antionette Martinelli, age 78 of Gulfport, MS died October 31, 2008 in 
Gulfport, MS.

Larry Hollis Puzz, Jr., 56, Biloxi, died October 31, 2008 in Ocean Springs. 
Mr. Puzz was born in Biloxi and a lifelong resident of D'Iberville. He was a 
1969 graduate of Notre Dame High School. Mr. Puzz was preceded in death by his 
father, Larry H. Puzz, Sr., Brother, Mark R. Puzz and grandparents, Sidney and 
Stephanie Fountain and Andrew and Gertrude Puzz. Interment: D'Iberville 
Memorial Park. 

Mrs. Roberta Joanne (Shaut) Ferrill, age 67, resident of Gulfport, MS died 
October 31, 2008, in Gulfport. Mrs. Ferrill was born in Bath, NY. She was 
preceded in death by her son, Robert Freeman Davis, Jr.; twin sister, Rebecca 
Jeanne Larsen; sister, Maxine Cupp; and her parents, Lawrence F. and Alyce 
Hosmer Shaut. Burial will take place at a later date in New York.  

Mrs. Choi How Wong, age 76, a resident of Gulfport, died oOctober 31, 2008, in 
Gulfport. Burial: Floral Hills Cemetery.
