   CHULA - Thelma C. “MeMa” Benefield, 82, of Chula died Monday, Feb. 9, 2009, 
at Tift Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. 
Thursday in the chapel of Albritton-Beaumont Funeral Directors with the Rev. 
Donnie Wright officiating. Burial will follow at Vickers Holiness Baptist 
Church Cemetery in Berrien County. The family will receive friends from 7-9 
tonight at Albritton-Beaumont Funeral Directors. Jamie Miley, Rodney Patterson, 
Jimmy Benefield Jr., Andy Thompson, Jeff Thompson and Timmy Thompson will serve 
as pallbearers. Grandsons and great-grandsons will serve as honorary 
pallbearers. Born Nov. 20, 1926, in Berrien County to the late Robert George 
Connell and Lonnie Barber Connell, Mrs. Benefield was also preceded in death by 
a daughter, Jerrynell Miley; four brothers; six sisters; a grandson, Little 
Sonny Patterson; and a son-in-law, Walter Thompson. Mrs. Benefield, a longtime 
resident of Tift County and formerly of Berrien County, was a homemaker and a 
member of Pine Hill Baptist Church. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, embroidery 
and raising and taking care of her animals. Mrs. Benefield loved her children, 
grandchildren and all of her family. Mrs. Benefield is survived by her husband, 
James Edward Benefield of Chula; two daughters and two sons-in-law, Judy B. 
Thompson of Tifton, Cathie and Sonny Patterson of Sumner and Bill Miley of 
Chula; two sons and one daughter-in-law, James Donald Benefield of Nashville 
and Jimmy Lee and Sharon Benefield of Tifton; two sisters, Hazel Knowles of 
Nashville and Alma Sirmans of Tifton; 28 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; 
three great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. You may sign the
