Sainted Mother Called to Her Reward

God called to rest on Tuesday morning at eleven o’clock, MRS. M. E.
DICKSON. She passed away at her home on the north side of town following
an illness of two years from a serious heart trouble.

Mrs. Dickson was born in January 183, at the family home in Franklin
County. Her maiden name was MARY ELIZABETH VAUGHTER. In early
young lady hood, she was married to Mr. Jeptha Dickson, also of Franklin
County, and they made their home in that county until a family of six children
was added to the home, and were ready to enter school. At this time they
moved to Jefferson, to take advantage of the superior educational instruction
offered at Martin Institute.

A few years after moving to Jefferson, Mr. Dickson was called by
death, and the widowed mother was left with the burden of rearing and
educating the large family of children, one of whom, Miss Eliza, passed away
just as she reached young lady hood.

Mrs. Dickson bore her great loss with beautiful Christian resignation,
and bravely and lovingly devoted her life to the rearing and educating of these
daughters and son, five of whom survive her.

Mrs. Dickson became a member of the Baptist church in early life,
and in her daily walk through her long life of four-score years she exemplified
every Christian virtue. She loved her Lord, and served Him with a consecrated
life. In the home, and as a mother, she was a model woman, loved and
honored by her children, who devotion in her declining years was beautiful. No
mother was ever so greatly appreciated by children as was Mrs. Dickson.
They never tired in their ministrations to her every desire and need.

The deceased had her sorrows, and her burdens were at times
heavy, yet none heard from her lips a murmur or a complaint. The Lord having
given and having taken away, she yet blessed the name of the Lord, and
continued her loving trust in Him. Her life was a benediction to those who
came within its touch. She had a kind word, a heavenly smile, a gracious
greeting for everyone, and none knew her but to love her.

But her pilgrimage on earth has ended. She has entered the pearly
gates. Her family and friends will miss her beloved presence, the sound of her
voice, the gentle touch of her hand, the ever ready smile, but they have the
comfort that she has gone the path that leads to her Eternal Home.

She is survived by the following children: Mrs. J. C. Bennett, Mrs.
Clifford Storey and Judge W. W. Dickson of Jefferson; Mrs. Sam Wilson and
Miss Ella Dickson of Atlanta; by seven grandchildren, J. C. Bennett, Jr., Misses
Miriam and Beth Bennett, Helen Wilson, Dickson, Joyce and Maybeth Storey.
Also, by one sister, Mrs. Wheeler of Blue Ridge; and two brothers, J. M. C.
Vaughter of Arkansas and Himer Vaughter of Texas. She was an aunt of Rev.
W. P. King of Gainesville and Rev. George T. King of Crawford.

Funeral services will be conducted this morning (Thursday), at 11
o’clock at the Baptist Church by Dr. J. J. Bennett of Athens, and Rev. A. J.
Johnson of the Jefferson Baptist Church. Interment will be in Woodbine
Cemetery.
