Carnesville Herald, May 3, 1956
Final rites were held last Sunday afternoon for one of Royston's and Northeast
Georgia's most prominent and beloved citizens -- Mr. Joe T. Cunningham.

Mr. Cunningham, who was 73 years of age, died at Cobb Memorial Hospital early
Saturday morning. He had been in failing health for some time, becoming
seriously ill a week before his death.

Funeral services were conducted from the Royston Methodist Church Sunday
afternoon at 3 o'clock with Rev. Jule D. Matheson, Rev. Homer J. Fussell, and
Rev. Neal Windom officiating. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery, Royston.

Mr. Cunningham was one of the leading businessmen in Royston. He celebrated
his 50th anniversary in the furniture business last July. In addition to the
furniture business which bears his mane, he founded Cunningham-Pruitte Funeral
Home, and was a member of the board of directors of Tri-County Bank.

A native of Franklin County, he was a son of the late Susie and William
Franklin Cunningham, pioneer citizens of Royston.

Surviving are his wife, the former Miss Helen Bush; a daughter, Mrs. Mitchell
Bond of Royston; a granddaughter, Miss Margaret Palma Bond of Royston; 2
brothers, Edwin Cunningham of Athens and Tom Cunningham of Royston; 1 sister,
Mrs. G. G. Ridgeway, also of Royston.
