Mrs. Lula Mae Brown, age 81 of Royston, GA, the widow of Dr. Stewart D. Brown, 
Sr., died Friday. Mrs. Brown was a member of the Royston United Methodist 
Church, honorary member of the Franklinia Garden Club and Past Regent of the 
John Benson Chapter of the D.A.R. She initiated Circulating Library for 
Franklin County and helped organize Royston Public Library. She was state 
Health Chairman, Tallulah Falls School; state Chairman for Women's Medical 
Auxiliary; Past President of the Allen Turner United Daughters of the 
Confederacy and was active in church and civic groups. Survivors, one son, Dr. 
Stewart D. Brown, Jr., one daughter, Mrs. Burt Barnes, both of Royston; one 
brother Mr. Walter Conwell, Detroit, Mich., one sister, Mrs. J. E. Flowers, 
Four Oaks, NC, 13 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren. Funeral services Sunday 
afternoon at 3 o'clock from the Royston United Methodist Church, Rev. Malcolm 
Paterson, Rev. Allen Green officiating, interment, Rose Hill Cemetery. Pruitte 
Funeral Home, Royston, in charge of arrangements. 

Additional Comments:
She was born on 23 Mar 1896 in Elbert Co., GA, the daughter of James Edgar 
Conwell (1868-1944) and Augustus Franklin "Gussie" Fortson (1870-1933). On 1 
Jun 1916 she married Dr. Stewart Dixon Brown, Sr. (1881-1952), renowned 
physician and surgeon of Royston, GA, founder of Brown's Hospital and a Capt. 
in the US Army Medical Corps. in World War I.
