     After an illness of five months death came to Mr. L.D. Brown,
prominent farmer of Rice Creek community early this (Thursday) 
morning. His death was due to kidney paralysis which followed a long
illness of pneumonia and other troubles. He was 70 years old.
     Funeral services will be held at the home on Friday, May 6th, 
by Rev. A.O. Hood of Jefferson. Interment will be in Canon cemetery.
     Mr. Brown probably was as well-known throughout this section as
any one and could lay claim to many friends. He was a prominent 
farmer and pioneered in the planting of alfalfa and many other new 
crops in this section. He was a member of Middle River Baptist 
Church. His death removes one of the outstanding farmers of this 
community.
     Surviving Mr. Brown are three children, Mrs. A.C. Hall, Mr. 
Neal Brown and Mrs. Marco Strickland, all of near Canon; two 
sisters, Mrs. Lettie Heaton, Mrs. Anne Brown of Canon, one 
brother, Mr. Jesse F. Brown, of Lindale, Texas.
     Joe T. Cunningham, funeral director, was in charge of 
funeral arrangements.
     The family have the deepest sympathy of their many friends 
in the death of Mr. Brown.
