Carnesville Herald, Thurs., Feb. 15, 1945
Death came to Mr. John F. Brown, age 90 years, at his home in Carnesville,
Monday night, February 12th, at 10:30. Mr. Brown died on his 90th birthday.
He had suffered of pneumonia for only two days. Mr. Brown had looked
forward for days for the celebration of his 90th birthday. Although
desperately ill throughout Monday he had a service conducted at his home and
he welcomed many of his friends who called to pay him their respects.
The remains of Mr. Brown were interred at Clarkes Creek Wednesday at 1
o’clock (EWT) with services conducted by Rev. E. H. Collins of Winder.
Pallbearers were Messrs. Clyde Sullivan, C. D. McEntire, Henry
Atkinson, S. W. Risener, Carlton Rampley and Parker Purcell.
Surviving Mr. Brown are his wife, the former Miss Sarah Stovall, and
the following children, Emmett, Tom, Jr., and Mrs. G. E. (Irma) Sanders of
Carnesville; Mrs. D. T. Ledbetter of Tallulah Falls, GA; Mrs. J. P. Coe of
Eastanollee, GA; Mrs. T. C. Withrow of Ellijay, GA; Mrs. J. H. Whitehead of
Lake Wales, FL; and Miss Hazel Brown of Baldwin, GA. There are also 15
grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, and two brothers, Messrs. G. A. Brown
and T. D. Brown of near Carnesville.
Mr. Brown was born in Franklin County on February 12, 1855, a son of
the late Tillman Brown. He had spent his life in the county of his birth.
Early in life he united with the Baptist church and for many years had kept
his membership at Clarkes Creek. He was active in religious work as long as
he was active in life. On his last day on earth he requested a service held
in his home and asked his friends to sing his favorite songs. He was
conscious almost to the end and was aware that the end of his early career was
approaching. He passed peacefully to his reward while surrounded by members
of his family and some of his friends. He was a tower of strength for
righteousness. He leaves a shining example of service for his loved ones and
friends. His Eternal Father was his guiding light and he goes to a rich
reward.
