The Burial of Thomas J. Blackwell.

Elberton, Ga., July 28-
A large crowd attended the burial of Mr. Thomas J. Blackwell at the cemetery
here yesterday evening. A special train on the Elberton Air-Line road brought
down the Carnesville lodge of the Knights of Honor in a body and also a number
of Masons from Carnesville and along the line of the road. The deceased was a
member of the Knights of Honor at Carnesville and of the Masonic lodge here.
He was buried with the honors of both organizations. The funeral took place
from the residence of his father-in-law, Major J. H. Jones, Rev. E. P. Lovejoy,
presiding elder of the Elberton district, officiating. Mr. Blackwell was a
well known and very popular man and was loved by all who knew him. He was
about thirty-five years old; was born and raised in Elbert county. He was a
merchant here for several years, but had been living at Lavonia since the
completion of the Elberton railroad. He filled the position of railroad agent
at that place, was a leading and honored citizen and a consistent member of the
Methodist church.
