The Carnesville Herald, May 1948 May 6, 1948
At a fish fry given at Carnesville lunch room recently for the workers in the
recent Red Cross campaign in Franklin County two of the workers were given awards
for the work they did in helping the county go over the top in raising their
quota.

Mrs. J.C. Hart, chairman, of Dawkins, walked many miles over the muddy roads in
her community and succeeded in raising $30.39 in this rural section to help put
the drive over the top.

Mrs. D.T. Barnes, chairman of Royston, and her helpers raised the amount of
$757.65, over $100.00 more than the quota they were assessed.

It was fitting that these two women, Mrs. Hart and Mrs. Barnes, be given the Red
Cross Merit of Award in recognition of their effort.
