The Carnesville Herald September 6, 1931
Eugene Talmadge, commissioner of agriculture, will speak to the people of this
section on the cotton problem at the courthouse in Elberton on next Saturday
afternoon at two o'clock. Those interested are invited to hear him discuss this
important subject.

Commissioner Talmadge attended conference called by Governor Long of Louisiana a
short time ago and is advocating the Long Plan for the cotton states to pass a law
prohibiting the planting of any cotton next year. Talmadge believes this will
force the price of cotton to above twelve cents.

He has made speeches in many places during the past ten days and many farmers and
business men have petitioned the Governor to call an extra session to pass the law
in Georgia. Louisiana has already passed the bill and Governor Long is urging
other cotton states to do likewise.
