Middle Ga. Argus – Week of May 26, 1883
A few weeks ago we wrote a notice of our good citizen, Mr. H. A. Sumner, the
present Superintendent of this section of the railroad and the notice called
forth the following endorsement from his former neighbors:

Belton, Ga. May 19th, 1883. Mr. W. F. Smith – Editor Argus.

Please allow us space to say a few words in commendation of Mr. H. A. Sumner
and his esteemed family: They came here in 1872 and remained here until last
fall. He had charge of a section of the Air Line R. R., and we will say he has
no superior and few equals. Mr. S. is a clever man, a good citizen, a
christian gentleman, and was a steward of the Methodist church during his stay
here. He is one of the best Sabbath school teachers we ever knew. He did much
for the cause of temperance. Summing up the whole matter, making a long story
short – he is a safe man, and it you ever get tired of him just let us have him
back, for we assure you that it was with many regrets we gave him up.

Respectfully, W. L. Redman, and T. R. Hawkins
