Lavonia Times February 1908
A message from Walhalla, S. C., informs us that Knox Bridge across Tugaloo River
has been sold to Georgia and South Carolina for the sum of $2,000. Sale is
conditioned on Georgia's raising half the amount paid for the bridge. This bridge
has been a toll bridge for more than thirty years and was considered valuable
property till the free ferry was put into operation near it about two years ago.
If this sale matures it will mean much for the future of Lavonia. There is a good
territory in South Carolina which would be glad to make Lavonia a trading point if
convenient accommodations could be afforded for getting across the river.

This is the first opportunity that the bridge has been offered at such a price and
it is expected that Georgia will do her part and make the bridge free. Lavonia has
done her part toward maintaining a free ferry across the river and it is
practically assured that a considerable amount can be raised in this place for the
purchase of the bridge. A meeting of the Board of Trade will be called soon and
the matter will have prompt attention.
