The Carnesville Herald June 4, 1942
James Jordan, Aviation Machinist Mate 3rd Class, is visiting his parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Cleo Jordan in Royston this week, after two months action on the west central
African coast. He has been in the Naval Air Service about 18 months and has many
interesting experiences to relate.

James says it is pretty durn hot in Africa but they soon get used to that. He
accompanies his plane wherever it goes in order to make any repairs that might be
needed. Searching for and sinking enemy submarines seems to be the chief object of
his Patrol squadron.

He only got a four-day furlough and has to report back to Norfolk Sunday for
assignment to further duty. His family and friends were glad to see and talk with
James and extend him every good wish for success in service and a safe return home
when the Huns and Japs have been licked.

Additional Comments:
According to the "Find A Grave" website, this poor kid was killed on June 13,
1942, only 8 or so days after this article was published.

He was 20 years old.
