The Carnesville Herald June 11, 1931
Athens, Ga., June 9--Four persons including a woman and a little child, were
trapped for about three minutes in a closed automobile submerged in six feet of
water here, but were rescued without fatal injuries.

The occupants of the car were Mr. and Mrs. Claud Huff, C.V. Greenwood and his 4
year old daughter, all of Athens. Mr. Greenwood lost control of his car on the
Oconee street bridge when it collided with an automobile driven by Miss Lillian
Bailey, of Elberton.. The Greenwood car crashed through the iron railing and fell
twenty feet, landing up side down in the water, where Trail Creek runs into
Oconee River.
