The Willow Creek coal measures are all right. Dan Coates was in town yesterday
and gave us an account of the progress that is being made. The tunnel has now
reached a depth of about 19 feet, and the vein of coal has increased from 2
feet 9 inches to 4 feet. As depth is attained the pressure has naturally made
the coal more compact and of better quality. Samples brought in by Mr. Coates
are far superior to that brought in a few days ago. The work of development
will be pushed with a good deal of vigor from now on, and it is confidently
expected that many of the people of the Payette Valley will be using fuel from
the Curtis mine before long.
