Cannery Building Ahead Of Schedule

Construction of the new cannery building at Fruitland is ahead of schedule
according to Earl Secoy, manager.

HE reported Friday that he expects to have the building completed by about July
1, in plenty of time for the start of the corn canning season which starts in
August.

The building, 90x120 ft. is being constructed of concrete to replace the old
sheet iron building which was razed to make room for the new structure.

Secoy is directing the construction, and has a crew of 19 men on the job.

Walls and part of the floor have been poured and the workmen were busy Friday
in setting up forms for pillars.

Cost of the new building, which has been planned to be modern in every respect
will run in the neighborhood of $60,000 he said.

The cannery at Fruitland was started by the Fruitland Caning Association some
ten or twelve years, and has enjoyed a steady growth. It specialized in the
canning of sweet corn and ships the product all over the United States.
