Back From Germany.

Carl Asmussen, one of the Payette Valley’s prominent German-American citizens,
reached home again last Friday after an extended visit in the Fatherland, at
Schleswig Holstein, with his aged parents whom he had not seen for 23 years.
As was anticipated by his many friends here, Mr. Asmussen did not return along,
having been accompanied by a bride, formerly Miss Cathrina Paulsen of
Schleswig, to whom he was married on January 24.

Mr. Asmussen was absent in all just a few days over four months. He reports a
rough voyage both in going and coming but says his visit at his boyhood home
was pleasant enough to more than make up for it. Speaking of the old country,
Mr. Asmussen says that although it is enjoyable to visit there, he is too
thoroughly Americanized to think it can compare for a moment with this
country, and that he could not be prevailed upon to return there to live.

Max Gerlack and Henry Sick, two other of our German citizens who were visiting
in the same vicinity as Mr. Asmussen, will also soon be at home again in the
Payette Valley, if they got started at the same time—last Saturday—they
expected to when Mr. Asmussen left for America. While nothing definite can be
given out at this time, the Independent is able to drop a hint that it is very
probable both Mr. Gerlach and Mr. Sick are returning under as happy conditions
as did Mr. Asmussen.
