AT PAYETTE

Council Has Saloon Questions Under Consideration

Payette, Feb. 7 - The town council held its regular meeting last night and
under suspension of the rules passed an ordinance prohibiting any saloon
keeper, or any persons who deal in liquor, from admitting any minor to his
place of business.

The ordinance granting a franchise for a canal on certain streets was voted
down by a unanimous vote.

The ordinance regulating the closing of the saloons at 11:30 p.m. and on
Sunday came up for final passage but was laid over until the next meeting on
account of a legal opinion by J. H. Richards getting lost or misplaced by one
of the councilmen.

John Conyers returned to his Long Valley home today. Mr. Conyers lives a
little ways northeast of the Warners ranch and says that it is an easy three
days' pack from his place to the Thunder Mountain Mines and with a little work
a wagon road could be made to Hot Lake, 30 miles further on, but the rest of
the way would be hard.

Frank Hurd has got the contract to carry the mail from here to Falk's Store
commencing next July. Mr. Hurd has got quite an advance on this mail route
over what it is now carried for and will give good service, as he is well
fixed to do the work, having everything that is needed.

Mrs. Al Wilson was taken suddenly ill at the residence of Hon. Peter Pence at
noon today, but is now, 4 p.m., resting a little easier.

A. B. Moss is better today.
