J. B. Thayer arrived in this city yesterday from Garden Valley. He says L. C.
Ross, an old-timer in that section, was drowned in the Payette river Sunday
morning. He attempted to cross a ford on horseback. The animal slipped off
the ford and went under with its human burden. Mr. Ross lost his hold and was
swept away. His body had not been recovered when Mr. Thayer left. The
deceased was a minor and had lived by himself in a little cabin for several
years.
