A Victim of Anthrax.

Jacob Wanamaker, brother-in-law of F. H. Cram, of this city, was brought down
from Salmon Meadows last week suffering from what appeared to be blood
poisoning in one of his arms. He had first run a sliver in his hand which
became swollen and very painful. The Salmon Meadows physicians treated him for
rheumatism, but he grew so much worse that he decided to come here. Dr.
Woodward was called in, and on Saturday Dr. Numbers of Weiser was sent for for
consultation. A microscopical examination of matter from the inflamed arm
revealed the presence of anthrax bacilli, and it is expected that amputation
will be necessary. Anthrax is a very peculiar, if not rare, disease, although
there have been three or four cases in and about Payette. It is caught from
cattle or sheep, more generally the latter; and is practically the same as what
in them is called black-leg.
