    Death of Jas. P. Allen
Mr. James P. Allen one of our best and most prominent
citizens, died at his home in this place on last
Monday morning at 4 o'clock. He had been in feeble
health for several months and his friends did not
have hopes of his living long but his death came
sooner than was expected.
   Mr. Allen was raised in Clay county and his
quiet and unassuming disposition and faultless
life, made him deservedly popular with all who
were acquainted with him. He was a good man;
a man of pure thoughts, kind words and noble
deeds. He possessed many shining traits of
character, and was one of the few men who could
number all his acqaintances as his friends, and
none as enemies. As a citizen, he was a model;
upright and law abiding, always throwing the
weight of his influence on the side of morality
and good government. He was a devoted member
of the church, and supported all of it's institutions,
leading a peaceable life unto all godliness and
holiness. While he died in the prime of manhood,
he left to his devoted wife and loving children
a good name, the richest heritage he could have
bequeathed them; and to his county the influence
of a noble life that will elevate it's
citizenship and mould character to live through
all eternity.
