Ashland Progress
John Thomas Blair was born June 12, 1859 and departed this life March 5, 1926 He
united with the Missionary Baptist church when he was a young man and lived a
devoted Christian the remainder of his life. He was married Dec. 13, 1883 and
was a loving and faithful husband until his wife's death, Oct. 7, 1925. "Uncle
John" was confined to his bed only about three and a half days and bore his
suffering meekly and patiently. Everything that the physician, friends and
loving children could do for him in his brief illness was done, but God saw fit
to call him home to rest. He leaves to mourn his death three children, viz: Mrs.
W. T. Mackey, W. W. Blair and Mrs. Iula Joiner, four grandchildren and a host of
other relatives and friends. His remains were interred in the Providence
cemetery by the side of his wife. We wish to say to the bereaved children and
grandchildren, friends and neighbors, we know your hearts are grieved to give up
such a loved one. but let us so live that when we receive the call that we will
be willing and ready to answer, as Uncle John was, and let us be constantly
scattering flowers among the living as he did. A Friend
