Death of Aged Pioneer Resident
Mathias Majerus, a pioneer settler of Scott County, died at his home 
in this city, Saturday morning, at two o'clock after an illness covering 
a period of six months.  Death was due to carcinoma of the lower jaw.
Deceased was a native of Brandenburg, Luxembourg, and had attained the 
advanced age of 86 years.  His boyhood and young manhood were spent in 
Germany but for forty-five years past he has been a resident of Scott 
County, the first twenty-five years on a farm at Marystown and the 
remainder of the time in Shakopee where he moved upon retiring from 
active labor. His marriage occurred in the latter city in 1866 to 
Miss Margaret Beckrich, who survives him together with two sons and 
a daughter Dominick Majerus of Jackson township, Nicholas of Shakopee, 
and Mrs, Kate Bauer of Hastings.
The funeral took place Monday afternoon at three o'clock from St. 
Mark's church, Rev. Mons. officiating.  Interment was in the upper 
Catholic cemetary.  Attending the servcies in a body was the 
Luxemburger Unterstuetzungs Verein of which deceased was a member.
Realtives who came from out-of-town to be present at the funeral were 
Messrs. and Mesdames Fred Schweich, M. Serres and Matt Bauer of New 
Trier; Mr. and Mrs. Henry Hemerle of Cologne; and Mrs. Chris Bauer
of Hastings.
