George Keltz (Kelso), a soldier of the American Revolution, owned the land where the cemetery is located. It is said that a family traveling over the Forbes Road stopped at a local inn where two of their children died. George Keltz gave them permission to bury the children on a hill behind the inn on his property. This would have been prior to 1784. (Source: Westmoreland County Historical Society Cemetery Guide)
