The Lucas Memorial Cemetery, established in the late 1890s, is located
west of Idalia on County Road AA one half mile north of US36. It was
started by the Andrew Lucas family when the nearby Friend Cemetery closed
and in 1901 was donated to the community with a stipulation in the deed
that burial plots would be given for free to anyone who asked. It is
still active and is maintained by the East Yuma County Cemetery District.
Many, if not all, of the 1880s-1890s burials here are remains of those
moved from the Friend Cemetery.
