County Seat - Walsenburg
(1861-1868 Autobees Ranch,
1868-1874 Badito)
Population - 7,862
Huerfano County is one of the original Colorado counties.
In 1866, the southern part was split off to form Las Animas County.
In 1870 Huerfano was divided again; the eastern part went to Bent County,
a small piece went to Pueblo County and another to Las Animas County.
Also in 1870, part of southern Fremont County was added to Huerfano.
