| Huerfano County is one of the
original Colorado counties. In 1866, the southern part was split off to form Las Animas County. In 1870 Huerfano was divided again; the eastern part went to Bent County, a small piece went to Pueblo County and another to Las Animas County. Also in 1870, part of southern Fremont County was added to Huerfano. |
