Read, Colorado was little more than a post office in Delta County between 1898-1934. The Read Cemetery is located on private property at this time and is difficult to reach. These photographs represent all of the gravestones left at the cemetery.
Jed Alan Carleton wrote, "The cemetery is not visible from the road and is located on top of a man-made rock hill." All that you'll see from the road is the fence and gate (on top of the hill). There is a small area to park on the West side of the Cemetery and a very steep trail and walk up to the gate on the West side of the property.
Not all of the graves are marked. In November 2013, there were approximately nine permanent markers with sixty three mounds (were people have been buried) in all that were counted.
