This success has, undoubtedly, been due to the faithful practice of the girls and to the work of our coaches, Miss Davis and Mr. Miano. A large number of girls came out for practice at the opening of the season and the attendance has been excellent all through the term. The Freshmen especially, have been very enthusiastic, a fact which speaks well for the future teams of Lodi Hi. Lodi 19, Oakdale 16 October 10 The opening game of the season was played on our own court October 1 0, with Oakdale as our opponent. Although the game was a very close one, Lodi carried off the laurels with a score of 19-16. As the first game of the season it was a great success. The gymnasium was filled with enthusiastic rooters who kept the building ringing with their shouts. The line-up was as follows: LODI OAKDALE E. Posey Forward M. Prowse Forward R. Meissner Forward F. Cashman Forward J. Joens Center G. Ardway Center H. Folendorf Center I. Clark Center R. Huberty Guard M. Kimball Guard M. Sorenson Guard E. Cashman Guard B. Bowe Substitute L. More Substitute M. Walters Substitute W. Kimball Substitute Lodi 12, Gait 11 October 29 On October 29, our gymnasium was again the scene of great excitement. Our neighbor, Gait, was our opponent this time and we were very much surprised at the improvement in her team. Indeed, it was only after a hard fight that Lodi won by the score of 12-11. Those who played on the teams were: LODI GALT E. Posey Forward T. Gerling Forward R. Meissner Forward L. Chase Forward J. Joens Center T. Porter Center H. Folendorf Center L. Saner Center R. Huberty Guard V. Seary Guard M. Sorenson Guard C. Randall Guard Lodi 13, Galt 13 December 3 Lodi played a return game with Galt on her court on December 3. This game was even more exciting than the first one, the score being 13-13. Many of the Lodi High students followed the team to Galt and enthusiasm ran high, the gymnasium echoing the cheers of the opposing yell teams. The line-up was: LODI GALT E. Posey Forward T. Gerling Forward R. Huberty Forward L. Chase Forward E. Smith Center T. Porter Center H. Folendorf Center L. Saner Center A. Folendorf Guard V. Seary Guard M. Walters Guard C. Randall Guard C. Nolan Substitute D. Smith Substitute Woodland 32, Lodi 6 December 10 On December 10, Lodi met her Waterloo on her own court. Our dreaded opponent, Woodland, defeated us quite badly, winning by a score of 32-6. Although the rooters were very encouraging and our girls played very hard, our team was no match for our stronger opponent. The line-up was as follows: LODI WOODLAND E. Posey Forward G. Eaton Forward R. Meissner Forward B. Rilenike Forward J. Joens Center M. Hodsall Center A. Folendorf Center R. Barnes Center R. Huberty Guard L. Evert Guard M. Walters Guard M. Howeitt Guard Lodi 13, Sacramento 16 January 15 The first game of the New Year was played January 15, on our own court against the Acornetts of Sacramento. Lodi was defeated by a score of 13-16. The game was very close from the start but we must admit that the Acornetts are better players than we. The line-up was as follows: LODI SACRAMENTO E. Posey Forward M. Cronin Forward R. Meissner Forward T. Irving Forward J. Joens Center E. Ellis Center H. Folendorf Center G. McNeeley Center A. Folendorf Guard E. Senf Guard M. Sorenson Guard R. Perterson Guard E. Smith Substitute A. Thurmond Substitute INTERCLASS GAMES Freshmen - Sophomores March, 1916 The first of the interclass games was played in March between the Freshmen and the Sophomores. Lots of class spirit was shown by both teams and also by the students who were lined up on each side of the gymnasium. The Freshmen put up a good fight but really had no chance of winning as every girl on the Sophomore team had, at one time or another, played on the school team. In spite of the difference in the scores the game was a very exciting one. The score was 12-24 in favor of the Sophomores. Those who played in the game were: FRESHMEN SOPHOMORES Anna Bauer Forward Rega Huberty Forward Abbie Thurmond Forward Ruth Meissner Forward Margaret Beckman Center Evadna Smith Center Pauline Roach Center Hazel Folendorf Center Dorothy Willms Guard Marjory Walters Guard Kittie Benedict Guard Carrie Nolan Guard Juniors – Seniors The Juniors forfeited the game so the struggle for the championship and for the cup will soon take place between the Seniors and Sophomores.
