WASHINGTON HIGH SCHOOL (A-L) -Alameda County-Fremont-CA
(Years 1892-2000 - approximately 11,000 names)

While the senior class in 1892 consisted of one; by the year 2000 it was over 500. The rapid growth of the area prompted the opening of additional high schools as follows:

• 1959 - Logan High School
• 1961 - Irvington High School
• 1961 - Newark High School
• 1963 - Mission San Jose High School
• 1964 - John F. Kennedy High School
• 1972 - American High School

Fremont was incorporated in 1956 and was comprised of these Districts: Alvarado, Centerville, Mission San Jose, Irvington, Niles and Warm Springs. Newark did not join in the incorporation and became a city of its own. Washington High School is located on Fremont Blvd in the Centerville District.

In 1916 some people were listed as (S)Seniors and others as AL(alumni); this due to the fact that Yearbooks were not published every year. When years were skipped they frequently picked up those people in the next book and listed them as Alumni. Some of the names were clearly identified as having graduated in 1916 while others were mentioned as teaching in years before 1916 indicating they graduated some time prior. These people are indicated with an asterisk following the year (1916 *).No records were found for the 1917 Seniors-all other years are represented.

The high school was originally called Washington Union High School but the Union was later dropped. Reference is made to San Jose Normal School - the writer believes this refers to what we now know as San Jose State University.
